Blow dryers, curlers, and straightening irons help to create amazing hairstyles. However, frequent heat styling is known to cause damage to the hair over time. Signs of heat damage include split ends, dry or brittle hair, and excessive frizz. The effect of heat styling can be minimised by reducing the amount you use tools that cause damage, and allowing your hair to dry naturally at least a few times a week. The symptoms of heat damage can be soothed and prevented by styling products that are specially-formulated to protect the hair.
There are an increasing number of heat-protective products on the market, and it can be difficult to know where to start! Today we’ll be taking a look at one of the leading products, HSI Professional Thermal Protector. We’ll explore what it claims to do, the benefits of using it, and any potential drawbacks.
What does HSI Professional Thermal Protector do?
The HSI Professional Thermal Protector is designed to defend hair from damage caused by heat exposure, up to 450˚F. It is formulated with argan oil, an exceptionally effective moisturiser, which helps to stave off the drying effects of heat styling. It leaves hair soft and well-nourished, and helps to prevent future damage by injecting the hair with moisture.
The ultra-conditioning formula does not require rinsing, and can be left in the hair to provide a barrier, not only against heat styling tools, but the effect of extreme hot, cold, or dry weather. This helps to prevent the dreaded frizz, and allows you to enjoy smooth hair that is easy to manage.
This product has been rigorously studied with all hair types, including extensions, and has not been tested on animals. It is sulfate-, phosphate-, and paraben-free, and safe for coloured hair.
Some users with fine hair have noticed that a few sprays too many can cause the hair to appear greasy. It’s important, therefore, to spray only a little at a time and work through the hair. Similarly, a few users noted that their hair can feel weighed-down when using this protector, although it could also be due to overusing the spray.

We love our curling wands and straightening irons, so when we find a product that can help us to keep using them whilst protecting our hair, we’re happy! Make sure to use a little of this spray at a time, and work through the hair, to avoid weighing it down. It’s a thumbs up from us!
